I realized I wanted to be a teacher while teaching my first lesson in 2015. The thrill on my student’s face gave me a warm feeling that I should be doing this! But over the course of several years I have realized that no student, regardless of age or experience, learns exactly like another. So I have learned how to explain in different ways so all my students can progress. I also give my younger students a practice log so they can track how much they practice. I like to treat it like a game. That way they look forward to practicing and can gain an appreciation for the trumpet. I also want the student to look forward to lessons with me. Not for my own personal sake, but I want the student to enjoy taking lessons. If they don’t enjoy lessons, they aren’t going to want to play. So I do my best to connect with the student at their level and have fun making music. I always look forward to expanding my studio and hope you will be a part of it sometime soon!
Hello and welcome to my studio! Your first lesson begins with breathing exercises as we need air to play trumpet. Proper posture, embouchure, and making a nice sound will come next. And later we will work on the more intricate aspects of trumpet playing such as articulations and range, while learning new songs! If you are already familiar with the basics of playing trumpet, we will work on the specific areas you want to work on. I'm glad you have decided to take trumpet lessons and look forward to helping you make great music! So what are you waiting for? Let's get started!
I will teach you and or your child based on the experience level. The more experienced my students are, the more I can discuss concepts of playing. After all, anyone can play exercises and music. But how we approach playing them is what makes us better. If the student is younger and less experienced, I will stick more to the basics of trumpet playing such as making a good sound and articulations. However, I have some neat tricks that can make it more fun to practice trumpet. Some of my students have practiced more because of the ideas I give them. Regardless of your age and experience, I look forward to helping you achieve your trumpet playing goals!
I have been playing trumpet for a couple years now and wanted to take trumpet lessons. I met Andrew through a mutual friend and I couldn’t be any happier! I’ll be honest I was skeptical to take lessons online but Andrew is a very good teacher! Even online he can hear things I could do better and I would definitely recommend him as a teacher
I just want to start out by saying Andrew is flexible with scheduling. It’s very helpful. But my son enjoys the lessons with Andrew. He said Andrew taught him how to breathe better and can’t wait until the next lesson.
