ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

Course Work: Irvine valley college

Overview:

My teaching journey began over three years ago, initially working with students in my church and later expanding to private lessons. Over the years, I’ve developed a teaching style that emphasizes consistent practice and encourages students to explore their passion for guitar. I believe that combining foundational techniques with a student's personal interests—whether in J-pop, classical, or other genres—helps foster a deeper connection with the instrument and keeps lessons engaging and enjoyable. As a member of IVC's guitar ensemble, I bring ensemble experience into my teaching, showing students how to collaborate musically and understand their role in a group setting. I focus on creating a supportive and positive learning environment where students are motivated to set personal goals, perform with confidence, and even explore their own compositions if they’re interested. I’m always excited to welcome new students of all ages, helping them discover the joy of guitar and guiding them on their unique musical paths.

EXPERIENCE

I'm a passionate and dedicated guitar instructor who loves working with students and sharing my enthusiasm for music. I’ve been playing guitar for over ten years, focusing primarily on J-pop music, which has been a huge source of inspiration for me. My formal training includes being part of IVC’s guitar ensemble, where I’ve had the opportunity to perform with talented musicians and refine my skills in a collaborative setting. Teaching guitar began as a way to give back to my church community, and since then, I’ve enjoyed helping students of all ages develop their own love for music. My approach is all about creating a supportive and engaging learning environment. I encourage students to explore various music styles while building a strong technical foundation, allowing them to discover their unique musical voice. Whether in a one-on-one lesson or ensemble practice, I’m always excited to guide my students on their musical journey and help them reach their potential.

METHODS USED

For beginning students, especially children, I typically start with foundational exercises and simple songs to help them build confidence and a solid grasp of guitar basics. Once they’ve mastered the fundamentals, I introduce solo pieces that suit their skill level and prepare them for their first performance, whether it’s a small recital or just playing for family and friends. For adult students, I focus on understanding their musical interests—whether it’s J-pop, classical, or another genre—and tailor my lessons to keep them engaging and enjoyable. I believe in creating a flexible, student-centered approach that keeps lessons fun and motivating, regardless of the student’s age or ability level.

LESSON STYLE

There’s nothing more fulfilling than watching a student develop a genuine passion for playing the guitar! I believe it’s essential for each student to progress at their own pace, and I support this by setting achievable goals in each lesson. Celebrating these accomplishments not only builds confidence but also fuels their motivation to keep learning. By taking the time to understand what excites each student—whether it's a particular genre like J-pop or a favorite song—I’m able to tailor my teaching approach to match their interests and goals. This personalized approach keeps lessons engaging and makes learning an enjoyable journey.
