I am a graduate of Musicians Institute College of Contemporary Music in Hollywood, California with a degree in drum/percussion performance.
I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I spend my time teaching drums, recording drums and playing drums for local artists/bands. While in Los Angeles I performed with many independent artists and also had the privilege to work with some well know artists, such as Scott Shriner of Weezer, Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe, and The Blue Man Group. Now I own my own music studio, host a local open mic, and perform in a few local philly bands.
I love music, teaching drums, recording bands and making music videos. I am a graduate of Musicians Institute College of Contemporary Music in Hollywood, California with a degree in drum/percussion performance.
In 2005, I was hired as the drum instructor at Los Angeles City College. Since then, I have authored three different drum books and have taught music at Southern California Music School, Pasadena City College, LA Valley College, LA Academy, Music Training Center and several other institutions.
I teach my students to read music as well as to play by ear. I host 2 recitals each year. We learn one song start to finish and I hire a professional band to learn and perform the songs with my students at a local establishment or at my studio. I encourage all of my students to perform with our recital band.
As far as books, I prefer to use the "new Breed", by Gary Chester, the ''Art of Bop Drumming'', by John Riley , and the ''encyclopedia of reading rhythms'', by Garry Hess, but there are many other books I recommend for specific needs.
I love to see all my students develop a passion for drumming and music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson and by teaching them the songs they love the most. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.
