First Place In The 2017 Jacksonville Church Talent Show
Music and Teaching music is a big passion of mine. I play 2 instruments drums and piano. My origin started in the church. From there I've been able to work with well known people and gospel artists. Names range from Bishop Vaughn Mclaughlin all the way to Maurice Lauchner. In my opinion I feel music is a form of therapy and enlightenment. And if I can pass that down to others, I would've fulfilled my part. I have had plenty of music teacher to show me the way for the past 15 years and I definitely feel that this is the way.
My teaching experience is very unique I started off teaching family and friends and friends or family from my church. I even showed drum techniques to people at guitar center I started teaching for free once I took my craft seriously I made up in my mind eight months ago to start an official music teaching business. I’ve always been acquainted with teaching music since I was 10 years old. reason why I started so young was because I was told at a very young age I was a prodigy and that teaching music would suit me.
For drums I would start off by showing them different parts of the drums and how it operates. After that I would then tell them the name and give them hacks to remember each part of the drum set. Once that is done I would then allow them to hit each drum piece to get a feel on how it sounds. Once that is over I would then show them how to hold their sticks which often times is traditional grip. Then I will show them a typical quarter note beat. And then give them other beat patterns as the lessons progress.
Life is bigger than just music. I enjoy my students not only learning what I teach them but enjoying themselves as they are learning. My job as a music teacher is not only to teach them but to also inspire them entertain them and motivate them. Music isn’t just a craft but a form of art that can be therapeutic and enjoyable. and I want to see my students to be able to have the access to the spirit of music so that they may thrive and not see what they’re doing as work but as something that they love.
