Hello! I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself. I am a Coachella Valley native and I have been playing piano for over 20 years. I started out playing by ear as a little girl and could listen to a song once and pluck it out on my mini keyboard in as little as one try! Since then I have played as a hobby and then decided several years ago to go to college and majored in jazz piano. I have had classical training as well as jazz style training. I love both styles. In addition to teaching and playing piano, I also sing and teach voice classes. I actively sing on my Church worship Team. I also have weekly students that I teach piano to and do vocal coaching for. I am married and have 3 adult children and 6 amazing grandchildren. I love to hike, or hang out with my family in my spare time.
My experience with teaching started 7 years ago. I was approached by a family in my church, and informed by them that their daughter wanted to grow up and play piano and sing worship songs like me. They asked if I would teach her all that I knew. From that point on a part of me was opened up to a world and love of teaching others all that I know! In a few years, by word of mouth, i grew from my having 1 weekly student to 15 weekly students and also leading some summer music camp workshops in voice and piano! I have grown passionate and fulfilled in teaching, inspiring and supporting my students in their endeavors.
If we start lessons together then I will evaluate what type of curriculum to order for you based on your age and/or grade level and understanding of music. It is imperative to own a keyboard or piano. I teach once a week for my students, but most of their skill is developed as they apply what they’ve learned, and practice daily, and there must be something at home for them to practice on. If learning piano, I love to combine jazz and classical methods of warmup and also teach musical theory as we progress in the lesson. If my student is learning about their voice and singing methods, I love teaching fun vocal warmups and helping my students break out of their comfort zones in a safe, encouraging space! I look forward to meeting you as you begin your journey down the road to music! I can also give great recommendations on purchasing the right musical equipment for your needs!
My teaching style is creative and tailor made for each of my students. I love getting to know my students and finding out their goals for the future and what kind of music they like to listen to and sing or play on piano. Because I am a pianist, I can learn any song and accompany all of my vocal students to be able to coach them at their own pace. I also love singing duets with my students to help break the ice or playing together with piano duets so my students don't feel so nervous. Lastly, and no matter their age, I notice and affirm every little skill that has been accomplished and encourage them in all areas to keep up the good work!
