With many years experience and training, I have worked with students of all ages and abilities. My students are successful because lessons are challenging but fun, positive and enjoyable. I believe in positive reinforcement, setting goals with the student, regular feedback and encouragement, and helping the student reach their potential. I have worked with young beginners and have studied the different needs of adult beginners. I am an active performer, playing in several orchestras in the area, giving recitals and playing in various small ensembles. I have performed in Canada, Europe, and all over the USA. As a beginning band teacher, I am happy to help students on any wind instrument learn good technique and tone. I have also coached all instruments up to an advanced level, so if you are preparing for university entrance, scholarships or Solos and Ensembles, I can help you polish your performance. Looking forward to hearing from you!
My first teaching was in summer music schools, then as an intermediate classroom teacher and music specialist (bands, choirs, musicals, folk dances, recorder, ukulele, classroom music and theory). I earned my Masters and began teaching university but have always taught privately as well. I work with parents to encourage the student to be self-motivated, so I make lessons fun. Students want to practice because they enjoy the progress they are making and look forward to lessons. Students know I enjoy being with them and that I believe in their efforts and progress.
My lessons include theory, ear-training and voice training within the context of games and enjoyable activities, as well as technique appropriate to the solos students are working on. I talk about where the music comes from, the composers, and other ideas to make lessons more interesting. We often perform pieces for parents and siblings to show them our progress, and recitals are an exciting culmination of a unit.
I'm always thrilled when my students succeed- come and give it a try!
