I have always loved making music, and I enjoy being able to share my skills and love of music with my students. My interest in the French horn began in the 5th grade, and I have been playing every since! The horn has taken me to Panama, the Gulf Coast, and to camps and workshops accros the United States. For me, playing music with others is incredibly fulfilling and inspiring. I aim to share this excitement with my students.
I began teaching private French horn students in 2011, and I have been teaching music in various ways since then. I have been both a general music and a band teacher, working with students in Preschool through Eighth Grade. With my private students I emphasize regular practice as the best way to improve and keep having fun with an instrument. I also seek out opportunities for my students to perform and attend concerts that may widen their musical horizons.
In my horn teaching I stress embouchure and breathing fundamentals as a solid foundation for playing. With school-age students I assist with school concert music in addition to separate lesson materials. I also have experience creating arrangements for students who have an interest in a particular style.
Students learn best in different ways and at different paces. I enjoy getting to know my students' strengths and trying multiple strategies to help them learn new concepts. Learning to play an instrument is very special because students can see and hear their own progress in real time. This is what makes learning and teaching the horn so exciting!
