LSU Premier Music Scholarship
Baton Rouge Auxiliary Club Scholarship
I'm originally from Venezuela and I moved to the USA to continue my music studies at Louisiana State University where I got my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Cello Performance. I have been teaching cello both in Venezuela and in the United States. I currently work as a cello teacher at Palacios’ House of Arts, in Baton Rouge. I'm also a member of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and Assistant principal cellist of the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra. I have attended Eastern Music Festival as a String Fellow as well as attending Domain Forget Festival. I have performed in masterclasses for cellists Phillip Muller, Raphael Wallfish, Lynn Harrell, Gary Hoffman and Frans Helmerson. She has also performed in masterclasses for Arianna Quartet, Pacifica Quartet, Attaca Quartet, St. Lawrence Quartet, Cuarteto Latinoamerico, Cavani Quartet and Shanghai Quartet.
Teaching and performing are what I love to do. To me it is especially rewarding to see how people (kids and adults) grow in different aspects of their lives when learning an instrument, especially the Cello. I have experience teaching in a group setting as well as in an one-to-one setting. I have been teaching Cello since I started in college and that has helped me understand how each individual has different needs and requires different methods.
My methods adapt to each student, their age and their level. The books I use go from the Suzuki books to the traditional Fouillard, Popper or Sebastian Lee methods. The repertoire would also depend on the student needs and the type of music he/she wants to learn. The age of the student is not relevant to me. The learning process might be different but anyone can learn an instrument at any age so I try to treat everyone equally.
I always try to create a friendly and respectful environment where my students can feel free to express themselves without being judged. I also appreciate and take care of my relationship with my students since I believe the influence of a teacher is part of what shapes a student's personalities and experiences in their present and future.
