BM, Berklee College of Music, Professional Music.
I am passionate about music, I've made it my profession and when I see students with a drive, a passion of their own or even mild curiosity about music I immediately jump in so i can guide them and help home skills that thane can take with them though their lives. In 2016 I received my Bachelors Degree in Professional Music from Berklee College of Music in Boston an while there i had the privilege to study jazz composition, vocal performance, Latin american Music Studies as well as song writing. I now have the opportunity to teach online lessons through Musika as I take the next big step in my musical career and move to Berlin Germany to pursue jazz.
My teaching experience does in fact date back to my college days at Berklee when I would give private lessons to my friends who were interested in learning more about music. Once I graduated I began working privately at the Amadeus Music school in Lexington Ma were I teach students ranging from 10-16. I encourage my students to audition for plays and shows, it grants them real world experience while allowing them the opportunity to have fun and put into practice the things I teach them in lessons. I strive to make my lessons engaging as well as entertaining because if it becomes a chore then why would we do it? I encourage my students to see the fun, beauty, and creativity in music and that opens so many doors for them.
For my voice students I encourage the idea that singing is a very physical activity, it dose not just "happen". Proper technique, breath support and a physical stretch are key elements to prevent strain and injury and promoting longevity. I usually begin with music that a student likes be it classical, opera, jazz standards or even more contemporary pop music, I also encourage them to listen to various recordings of the pieces we are woken with to sharpen their musical ears and to show them that there is no "one way" to sing a song or perform a pice of music. Finally we also tackle conducting an dear training as those skills are vital for musical growth no matter what skill level we have started with.
My students never cease to surprise me be it deciding that they are going to try out for the musical after all, or telling me they want to be a composer. Every week we have assignments and homework and we set goals for the next class, I find it very helpful to have realistic goals that we can stick to and see growth little by little so my students see real progress and growth. I praise my students when I see real effort and when they accomplish a particulate goal even if its small, while pointing out were we can improve technique together.
