I am an experienced singer, musician and teacher. I have been in the music field for over 20 years. My 8 year old son is a prolific musician and performer as well. I have earned a Master of Arts degree in Education, Teaching, Learning and Curriculum with an emphasis in Music. My students have been selected for leading roles and have been awarded honor rolls, scholarships and sing in prestigious choirs as well as attend ivy league schools and graduate schools. I have sung with top musicians who have performed at Carnegie Hall, in front of thousands of people.
I have taught music for over 20 years. I have been performing for 25 years. My students acquired graduate degrees in music, as well as attended the most prestigious schools, here in the bay area and beyond. My son and students are prolific performers and have been selected for leading roles. They have been awarded scholarships and honors in the performing arts field, and in general academia subjects. I published a thesis on the subject of how music helps with learning, mood and mind/body healing.
My methods of teaching cater to the students interests and strengths. I use material and songs that the students want to learn. I draw the learning from these pieces of art. I also use Suzuki, Hal Leonard and Bastien piano materials. My specialty is popular, sacred, arias, jazz and folk music. I create diversity in my lessons and keep them fun and exciting. In my lessons, I teach body mechanics, proper vocal warm ups as well as piano exercises and drills. This is necessary to keep the voice, body and fingers agile and in shape.
I am a pragmatic teacher. I coach my students in order that they succeed in all areas of life, not just in the performing arts field. My lessons ensure that the students mind and body are working optimally. I published a thesis at Sonoma State University, which validates that those who sing and play piano, are more likely to attend graduate school as well as think with excellent cognitive ability. Students who study singing and piano have a higher level of spatial awareness. My style of teaching is geared toward goal setting, keeping the students engaged and having fun.
