A little bit about me: I have been playing guitar for 15+ years, and have been performing for 13+ years. I am passionate about the craft of guitar playing, and creating music. I studied guitar with Dr. Molly Miller (chair of the Guitar Department at Los Angeles College of Music) in 2019 and have pursued other intensive course since. I lead and perform in a band called Head to the Roots. We are based in Rochester, and have been on multiple out-of-state tours. I am a big fan of rock, folk, funk, blues, raggae, and jam music.
My teaching experience began in 2015, where I held private sessions. From there I adventured the United States, performing in many places and spaces, so I am picking up teaching again as of 2022. I put myself through disciplined daily practice routines, and highly encourage students to do so in order to achieve fretboard fluidity and proficiency on the instrument. The two main things I want my students to achieve are 1. to achieve their personal goals on guitar and 2. to have fun in the process!
I first understand the interests, inspirations, and goals of my students. From there I tailor a lesson map that we can follow to achieve those goals. This often includes becoming familiar with fundamentals of the fretboard, music knowledge, and warm up and daily practice routines. A great way to learn the instrument is to listen and learn the music that my students love themselves. Together we can learn and eventually play the songs and guitar solos from our favorites musicians. I encourage students to write their own pieces of music with the skills learned in lessons.
Every person is going have their own specific way of learning and progressing on the instrument. I am a pretty mellow and patient person, and I like my students to feel comfortable. My style is to acknowledge what my students goals and inspirations are, and then set out to achieve them with realistic, bite sized goals that will eventually lead to break throughs! The break throughs are the best moments to witness. They come from persistent, focused, and disciplined practice. As a teacher I am guiding the students with what to practice and focus on.
