Throughout the years I have discovered artists who capture my attention and infused their playing into my own to create a very broad and varied musical style. In addition to writing and performing my own material, I have also worked in ensembles and backing bands that played genres such as blues, rock, jazz, metal, funk, pop, country, reggae, hip-hop, and more. Graduating from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2013, I received my BA in Music Performance with a focus in jazz guitar. I am an active teacher, performer, and song writer who has recently moved to Arlington, MA.
I began teaching private guitar lessons while in high school around 2007. After college I moved to New Bedford, MA to start teaching at a local music store, Double Bar Music. During this time I also created and taught a guitar workshop at the Southcoast YMCA for children ages 6 to 14.
I like to break lesssons down into 3 categories; technique, reading, and repertoire. Technique includes the learning of scales and chords while developing a strong rhythmic sense. For reading studies I will be using William Levitt's Guitar Method books. The repertoire is unique to each student and will be a reflection of his/ her interests.
I believe that patience is key when teaching music. Every student is different and it is my job as an instructor to tailor my lessons to each individual. Music has changed and enriched my life in so many ways that I love to give back and share this joy with others. I believe that by instilling a passion for music in students they will come to appreciate all art forms. By properly learning how to practice and improve on a musical instrument, students will develop the skills necessary to thrive in all areas of life.
