Bachelor Degree: The College of New Jersey
I am a self taught musician who started learning in my teen years. I graduated from The College of New Jersey with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 2021. I have been performing since a young age, starting on drums, and then guitar and voice. I am interested in many genres of music, including traditional, blues, folk, rock and punk. Currently I play in multiple bands, and have a band of my own, and a solo project. I have a teaching studio in the garage here in Tom’s River, where I have a drum kit and plenty of space to learn.
I began teaching in my college days, when I would help friends learn different instruments. My experience includes working at School of Rock Red Bank, where I taught guitar, drums and bass. I encourage my students to develop their own musical tastes and to learn music as a language. As a songwriter, I think that it is always a good idea for students of any level to pursue their own compositional goals. It’s my job to guide my students to where they want to go with their instruments and to develop an appropriate practice regiment.
For beginners on string instruments , I start with teaching them the major scale in the key of G, and then progressing to beginner songs. After a few songs are mastered, I ask each student to propose a song they’d like to learn based on their individual taste. For percussion, I focus on fundamentals such as proper sticking techniques and rudiments. Then I begin teaching them how to use the kit properly, as we work into basic rhythm, eventually progressing into learning songs. I have an abundance of songs for all skill levels that will help students master the basics.
My approach to teaching is individualized. Each students has their own potential that as a teacher I will help them realize. I pride myself on being a listener, and will always allow field any questions or concerns during lessons. Each student progresses at their own speed, and I make sure to be realistic with my goals for them. As a teacher, patience is necessary in order to promote steady growth. I always encourage my students to practice at least 15 minutes a day in order to maximize their productivity.
