Overview:
Hello, my name is Antoine and playing the drums is my passion! Having graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston with my music diploma in Performance, I had the privilege to study with the top musicians in the world. I have performed all over the world aboard 2 Holland America Line cruise ships, playing nightly with a show band. I have also played all around Boston with Grooversity, an Afro-Brazilian drumming group. Now, I wish to share my knowledge and experience with you!
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to France (2008) when I started teaching music theory to children between the ages of 8-14. I had a class of about 10 or 15 kids and we worked on solfege, theory, and singing. During that time I was also teaching drums in the same school and privately in my house in Normandy, France. I emphasized two keys points of success to my students: always come to your lessons and always put in the time to do your practicing. Although I did not teach during my time at Berklee, I was still exchanging a lot of information and drum tricks with my fellow classmates.
METHODS USED
I teach musical skills through the use of contemporary music while enforcing traditional concepts. I love to share the joy of playing drums with students of any level or age! For beginning students who are children, I start with some simple rhythmic concepts and some easy sight reading. When they have established some fundamentals on the set, I can teach them how to play a song that they love or different grooves that they will enjoy playing. For adult students, I go through what they need to improve their playing or help them on their musical journey. If they are a beginner, I teach them the fundamentals of rhythm, sight reading, styles, coordination and soloing.
LESSON STYLE
I encourage my students to set short as well as long term goals so that they can have a timetable of tangible results as motivators to get to the next level. I always take into consideration the amount of time that we have together (number of lessons per month) in order to reach these goals so I am able to keep everything on track. Every lesson is going to be structured with a few fundamental topics (snare technique, sight reading, styles, grooves, and soloing). Every topic will be covered at regular intervals so that both the student and I can see their improvement from lesson to lesson. I also highly encourage students to record or videotape their lesson in order to be able to practice better and see their improvement.
