At a young age I developed a love for music when singing in the church and family choir. In high school I played the trumpet in the marching band and was a member of the choir. Later, I continued my music education at Prairie A&M University. At Prairie View I was a member of the marching storm and the concert choral. In 2010 I graduated with a Bachelors in Music Education. Later, in 2015 I graduated from Texas A&M University Commerce with a masters in music. I currently, teach the children's choir and sing with the Praise & Worship Team at church.
I have been teaching since 2010. I taught General Music for K - 6th grade students, choir and private lessons for keyboard. Later in 2012 - 2019, I taught grades 3rd - 8th grade and band / choir after school. I taught private lesson to beginner brass students teaching the basic fundamentals. Currently, I teach K - 6th grade general music with a focus of keyboard and ukulele for 5th and 6th grade students. After school, I teach elementary choir where we focus on solo, group singing, and stage presence.
For beginning students, I focus on the fundamentals of music as such as note values, note reading, dynamic marking, and tempo. It is important that students have a foundation and in understanding how to read music. I will begin with a warm ups to develop ear training and pitch. We will work on solo repertoire and find music that students will enjoy. My instruction is based on the need of the student and progress based on their ability level. I do my best to make sure lessons are engaging and fun.
I believe that students learn best when activities are hands - on and through repetition. This is why my lesson include games to help students practice what they learn. It is my goal to motivated students to reach their highest potential. I encourage students to set realistic goals and motivate them to work at their own pace. We will work on stage presence and solo performances. I encourage students to perform for their families or friends to help with nerves or shyness. It is my goal to see my students progress at their pace.
