Overview:

I’m a passionate flutist and educator, finding immense joy in guiding students and spreading my deep love got the world of music. I’ve been lucky enough to perform worldwide in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and Sydney Opera House, recording classical music albums as well as film music and pop songs. I received my education in various institutions (University of Southern California, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid, Spain, Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Poland) which helped me to develop my own teaching methods based on the unique blend between European and American music schools. In the meantime between performing and teaching, I serve as a President of the San Diego Flute Guild, helping to spread the love for my instrument and opportunities to perform, compete and learn through multiple, public events throughout the year.

EXPERIENCE

I began teaching 13 years ago though the Yamaha Teaching program, followed by giving private lessons 13 years ago back in my college years and have been teaching students all around the world since then, both in person in California, and through Zoom, online. I also offer college and career advisement as well as help in competition and audition preparations. Additionally, I am serving as a guest artist, giving masterclasses and coaching at the multiple different music festivals in the United States as well as adjudicate music competitions.

METHODS USED

The first few lessons will focus on discovering our goals as one team: student, teacher and parents. We will have an open conversation about specific aspects of the flute and music that each student would like to improve as well as identifying their strengths. I use a variety of teaching methods, based on my own experience as a performer that I gained throughout long years of international education. I usually start my beginner students with Flute 101 Mastering the Basics method book, followed with the selection of scales and technical exercises of my creation and a repertoire selection (including etudes) matching the skills progression. For more advanced students I use a mix of my favorite, classic methods books such as Trevor Wye’s Practice Book for Flute, Philippe Bernold’s Vocalises, Taffanel & Gaubert 17 Daily Exersises for flute, Flute 102 Mastering the Basics etc, mixed with my own technical and sound exercises and an appropriate repertoire selection.

LESSON STYLE

My goal as a teacher is to provide a safe space for creativity in teaching my students how they can thrive in their music aspirations, how to divide hard work and fun and motivating them and connecting their interests into one passion: creating beautiful music. The big part of of my teaching style is sight-reading (reading and playing new music on the spot) and playing chamber music (on each lessons we will play duets). Lessons are customized to the needs of each student and include instruction in the following areas: • Learning how to practice effectively and efficiently • Play the flute with a beautiful tone and excellent technical proficiency • Perform music from a wide variety of genres • Sight-read with ease • Improving rhythm and an understanding of basic music theory • Breathing, balance, and postural ease in sitting and standing • Intonation exercises - playing chamber music together • Awareness techniques and mental preparation to manage performance anxiety, reduce discomfort, and unlock free, expressive playing • Audition/competition preparation, stage presence • Extended Techniques for tone development and applications in repertoire, beat-boxing • Learning how to improvise • Become a successful and knowledgeable musician • Studio recitals and other performance opportunities

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
