BS, Music w/ Teacher Certification - Texas Woman's University, 1999
I started general music lessons at the age of 2 and piano lessons at age 4. Upon starting middle school, I joined the band and played flute and oboe, and I continued playing flute in school band through 9th grade. My 10th grade year was spent at Performing Arts High School in Fort Worth, where I focused half of every day exclusively on Dance, Art, Drama, and Music. When I graduated from high school, I was awarded a music scholarship to Texas Woman's University where I took private piano and voice lessons, as well as group guitar lessons and brass/percussion and woodwind classes. I graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Music with All-Level Teacher Certification.
I have been involved in the Austin-based Violet Crown Orchestra playing various instruments and singing for the Violet Crown Radio Players. I am currently a member of the Tulstin Troubadours, who have played at numerous Renaissance Festivals around the country as well as demonstrating various instruments to groups of young children. We have recorded and released a CD, titled "Rennies of Unusual Sound".
I have been teachin private piano lessons for 8 years. I taught private piano lessons and small group (2 or 3 children) piano lessons and classroom general music at a private preparatory preschool to children aged 3-7 for 5 years. I also taught junior and senior high school choir from 1999-2000. I have experience teaching special needs children as well, and can modify my teaching style to fit any student.
I use a variety of techniques to teach piano, and though I have specific songs I usually teach, I can adjust to each student's interest, strength, weakness, and his/her personality. If there's a particular song you'd like to learn, please let me know - we can work on it and make it wonderful! Whatever your style, I'll create a lesson plan suited to your individual learning style, interests and needs.
Relaxed but focused.
