I enjoyed growing up in Ann Arbor, Michigan and had the privilege of starting piano lessons when I was seven years old and violin lessons when I was nine. I continued my study of both instruments through high school and into college where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Pedagogy. I completed a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance, May 2017; and, am currently pursuing a second Masters degree in Accompanying at Florida State University where I am an opera accompanist. My goal is to share everything I gain with others. As a music instructor, Il realizes the opportunity that I have to touch lives through music; and. I aspire to brighten each day with a musical tune.
Over the past ten years, I have enjoyed working with hundreds of music students. In each private lesson, my goal is not simply to teach, but to make the entire experience enjoyable. With this in mind, I select works that will both challenge and inspire my students. I also incorporate theory review games and incentives to help motivate children and keep them excited about music. As a music instructor, my desire is to make a positive difference in the lives of my students by imparting to them a love for music and a love for learning that will last a lifetime.
When it comes to piano method books, the options are limitless. Method books are often approached with the mindset that “one size fits all.” Having studied with numerous professors and graduates of renowned colleges (I.e. Moscow conservatory, Juilliard etc.) I have experienced first hand, styles and methods from a myriad of instructors. Just as every student is different, I believe the choice of method books should be adjusted based on the aspirations, personality, and learning style of the student.
The key to being a successful teacher is understanding your students learning styles and adjusting your methods to best suit their needs. With this in mind, I tailor each lesson for individual students by understanding their goals, determining their level, and selecting appropriate repertoire. As a musician, I aspire to touch lives through music and make a difference one tune at a time. Whether winning first place in a piano competition, performing for weddings and recitals, accompanying soloists, collaborating with other musicians, or playing in church venues, I have always enjoyed music; and, I believe music is meant to be shared.
