ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

Dallas School of Performing Arts

Guitar Performance Degree from the Musicians Institute's G.I.T. program (2005-2009)

Awards:

Rockwell Unscenes top 15 guitarist on the summer AEG tour circuit (2015/2016)

Overview:

I am an experienced, highly motivated instructor who loves teaching. I am a graduate of the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles California and i have over 12 years of teaching experience working in every teaching environment including, in home, music studios, music schools as well as formal schools. I have taught private as well as group lessons to all ages, styles and ability levels. Ive toured in 15 countries as well as all over the United States and shared the stage with Def Leppard, Slayer, Black Label Society as well as many others. Currently I play in the Philly rock trio Marsha Drive and work as a music instructor and music director.

EXPERIENCE

I've been teaching for the last 12 years and over the course of that time I've taught hundreds and hundreds of students every age, skill level and interest. I've taught for studios, schools, music stores, In home, online you name it. After graduating from the musicians institute in 2007 its been one of my main gigs. I've toured all over America, Australia and Europe and put out a few albums as well as worked as a music director for the school of rock which involved casting a running a rock themed show.

METHODS USED

For beginners or people that are brand new to the guitar we typically break the lesson into halves. The first half is typically practicing pentatonic scales and basic finger exercises and maybe some rhythm drills before moving onto simplified versions of famous classic songs. The expectation is to play the scale at a certain tempo with a metronome, and be able to play along with the recording of whatever song we happen to be focusing on. Also for beginners i may include some reading exercises from Hal Leonard book 1. For Adults or people that have been playing a few years the lessons become much more specialized and tailored to the individuals interests and musical needs. I typically find things the student has never focused on { playing a blues shuffle, ear training} and work on those things. We always close with a goal for the following week. For instance "Play the B minor blues scale sequence at 125 bpm using 16th notes"

LESSON STYLE

I believe to really be in a state to learn the individual should be relaxed and comfortable. I take a very laid back conversational approach to my lessons while still retaining focus and structure. Every lesson will be slightly different depending on the students skill level, experience and musical interests but every lesson has a focus on musical rudiments and then exploring those concepts through classic songs. When you understand music, every song , riff or lick because a lesson. Every lesson will conclude with a specific goal to work on for the week.

I've worked with Art professionally in many settings and I think it would be foolish for anyone who has the opportunity to learn from him to pass it up. If you truly want to get to the next level without hating your teacher, Art is the man for you.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
