Overview:
Hi! My name is Ashley and I am passionate about teaching music! Growing up, I was big into Musical Theatre, but I also had an older brother who really got me into rock music. I made my professional theatre debut in the 7th grade, and my career took off from there! I pursued a degree in Musical Theatre, and went on to "pound the pavement" in New York City, as they say, working in various facets and degrees of the musical theatre industry. Missing home and nature, I moved back to Massachusetts and took up teaching. I began teaching students in-home, prior to purchasing my baby grand piano which I currently use in my studio today! I went back to school to obtain my Masters of Music in Music Education, and continued to perform but this time in rock bands! I am currently in three rock bands, Rocket Queen (A tribute to Guns N' Roses), NOTB (a tribute to Iron Maiden), and NIB (a tribute to Black Sabbath). In my free time I enjoy performing showtunes for memory impaired patients at assisted living and nursing facilities.
EXPERIENCE
I started out teaching "house call" style lessons, driving ALL over the area, just to gain students and experience! This was while attending graduate study for Music Education as well. Once I built up a good following, mostly via word-of-mouth, I was able to teach both out of my home (upon purchasing my baby grand piano which is currently in my studio today), and then moving into a shared studio space. I currently rent a whole floor all to myself, equipped with two bathrooms, waiting area, performance space, full PA (sound system), and a plethora of instruments!
METHODS USED
For piano I prefer the Faber series. I like to include scales, sight-reading, and repertoire of the students choosing and of my suggestion. For Voice I like to cover the anatomical fundamentals (posture, breath, phonation, and depending on age), in the first lesson, and each lesson includes a warm-up as well as at least one piece of repertoire of the students choosing. For guitar I teach note reading as well as tablature, but we mostly work from tablature, unless the student is studying classical.
LESSON STYLE
I cater each lesson to each individual students needs. The thing that I love about teaching private lessons is that each and every student is different. Whereas with group and classroom teaching, you try to make each student fit the mold, private students, I try to fit YOUR mold! What makes you tick? What is your passion? What drove you to want to learn your instrument? Who inspires you? I look forward to learning all these things and MORE about you! I teach students of any age, there is no minimum or maximum! Anyone can have a passion for music, and it is never too late!
