Overview:
Music is a powerful tool in expanding one's understanding of academics, emotions, and culture; among a variety of other things. I began studying music in a performing arts academy at the age of 10. While there, I studied saxophone, cello, double bass, and voice. I continued to major in music throughout high school. While there, I studied within the jazz ensemble, wind ensemble, concert band, marching and pep bands, and saxophone quintet. I also took theory and APH theory, and began composing original pieces. I studied music in college for a year before deciding to study independently.
EXPERIENCE
I took on my first student in 2007 and found that I loved it! In being an open minded learner, I made it a point to treat my students in the same manner; thus allowing me to develop highly individualized lessons, plans, and goals for my students. I made it a point to ensure their goals and needs were in line with any external deadlines. I would encourage students to keep practice journals and to record at home practices for reference. It is extremely important that students not only have fun during lessons, but that they also feel challenged. Every lesson is a small step out of the comfort zone - it may or may not be noticed, but the step is take none-the-less. The lessons I teach are inclusive and may include snippets from other subjects - such as history, science, or math. I find that really engaging the student's thought process gives them a more open perspective to approach music with.
METHODS USED
For students aged 3-6, I ensure to use visual materials. I also try to give the student time at the end of the lesson to improvise, which ensures ending on a positive note.-Students aged 7-13 always a quick Q&A regarding music studies in school if they are participating in the school's music program. They are also given scale exercises to ensure a solid knowledge of the major and minor scales.-Students 14+ are given the opportunity to express particular interests and goals that they are specifically trying to reach. They are also given assignments to complete outside of the lesson that aren't time consuming, but essential to tieing lessons together.
LESSON STYLE
During the first lesson, I have a short discussion with the student to see what their goals are. I also ask what about music interests them. I then ask them to perform anything of their choice to assess their ability level (if applicable). After that, I tell them what immediately needs to be addressed and how this will work with their longterm goal. Then, based on their progress, we set benchmark goals that are adjusted according to their pace. In knowing what interests the student, I can be sure to include and expand upon said interest to avoid the student feeling daunted.

Ashley definitely knows her craft. She is helpful and knowledgeable about getting my daughter ready for her future goals and aspirations. My daughter is learning and growing and would like to keep Ashley as her instructor. Unfortunately, she has had to modify our lessons too many times due to her work schedule, car troubles, and is causing a burden on being able to continue lessons with her.

So far, so good! I've only had two lessons so far, but in those two lessons she's already taught me so much! Ashley provides a very relaxed atmosphere which makes me comfortable and I hope that as I continue I begin to see the changes I am hoping for.

Ashley was a wonderful vocal instructor. She was kind, helpful, and most importantly, patient with me! She guided me through several exercises to help my breath control and increase my range. I know if I use these tools and practice everyday, I will become a better singer, but I'll definitely take another lesson with her in the future!

Hi We have been working with Ashley for approx 5 months. She has been amazing. She is patient, talented and keeps my child engaged - which is not always easy. I highly recommend her.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm.
