Bachelor Degree: LaGrange College B.A. Musical Theatre
I am a passionate and enthusiastic voice teacher! My training is in Musical Theatre, and that is my expertise, however I believe that any strong singer must start with proper technique and familiarity with his/her own unique intstrument. The voice is different than other instruments in that we carry it wherever we go, so it must be maintained with utmost care! After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre, I have settled in the Metro Atlanta area and my passion is to teach music. I love to teach, and hope to give my students every opportunity they deserve in the music world!
My teaching experience started in college, where I taught private lessons to younger singers. These days I teach lessons at a traditional studio, and now here at Musika! I love and welcome students of all ages and singing abilities. I have worked with singers ranging from 7-20 years old, however I will teach any age student! I'm a fairly young teacher, however my knowledge of teaching comes from several highly qualified and quite frankly excellent teachers. I love to work in all styles, including musical theatre!
I believe that each singer is unique, and that teaching styles are a great guideline but can also be a limit on a student's creativity. I believe in modifying my approach with each student based on their individual needs and desires. With children, the idea is cultivating a LOVE for music, and teaching them basics like pitch matching, rhythm, theory, etc. For adults, we can go further by learning about musicality, character development, emoting, and truly creating MUSIC, along with the basics. Each student is different, but each student deserves a specialized technique that suits their needs.
Each student is totally unique both in their ability, and their desires. No one person has the same dream, therefore no two students should be approached the same. My belief is that a strong technical foundation is pertinent to success, as well as a fundamental knowledge of his/her own voice! I aim to help my students discover their voice, and how to wield it in a way that makes sense to them. After the basics have been mastered, the focus turns to expression, musicality, and taking notes and words and turning them into beautiful music!
