Overview:
I am a passionate and skilled teacher who takes pride in her students achievements. I have extensive background teaching students of many skill levels, from never seeing a violin before to playing for several years. I mentored students that were grades 6-8 primarily but also mentored and organized ensambles with students grades 9-12. I helped them practice for competitions and musical performance assessments. I am fun, energetic, and love to get to know new people. I believe this sets me apart from other violin teachers because I am not 100 years old and I won't just give you music and leave. I want to help you become skilled in music and enjoy learning.
EXPERIENCE
My experience was primarily when i was in highschool. I taught students below me for many years while organizing my schools mentoring program. This was before 2015. I have since moved on to college, where I have mentored on and off without any steady students. My major at Austin Peay State University is education. And because of that I have more experience and skills on the teaching side now instead of solely the musical part. I am ready to begin teaching again and hope to find some students who will stick with it.
METHODS USED
At the beginning students need to understand their instrument. They need to know what it's parts are, what the names of the strings are, and how they are different from eachother. Because of this I usually begin by teaching the anatomy of the violin to my students and having them experiment with the strings, pegs, and fine tuners. I then tell them about maintenance specifically now maintance since you can easily hurt it. Next, I teach about the different strings. G, D, A, and E. I will start with a song like hot cross buns, which is easy and recognizable. Once the student has mastered that we will move on to harder material, shifting, and other techniques while learning to read music along the way.
LESSON STYLE
There's nothing better than seeing a student learn and get excited about music. Because of this, I try not to discourage students. I let them learn at their own pace, look at music they enjoy, and try and practice what they feel comfortable with. Challenges in music are important because it helps the student develop as a musician and get better. But at the same time a student who is pushed past their limit will likely shut down. And once that happens, there isn't much more to be gained. Because of this I have students work at their own pace and enjoy the music.
