I am a passionate teacher who loves instructing people of all ages, my experience with all music genres really pulls in all people of different diversities. I have traveled all over the world singing on tours until I settled down in the heart of Kentucky to teach and have a family. I think being a mother really helps me as a teacher because my first instinct is to nurture then to teach. I have toured in Brasil and Europe with a small group singing in several competitions. I enjoy being the youth choir director at KY Classic Arts Theater.
I have been teaching vocal music privately for going on 6 years now and in the public school's for 5 years. I graduated from Campbellsville University in 2012 with a bachelors in vocal music education and in 2015 with a masters degree in special education. I teach part time at Kentucky Classic Arts theater in Lebanon Ky where I am currently the youth choir director and I also teach private lessons, I also teach private lessons at Campbellsville University. I am always looking for new faces! My students compete in lots of different talent competitions.
For beginning students who do not read music, I focus on singing small melodies while learning to read the music and listen to the tune. This is crucial for ear training. As student's get older and or have been in the studio a longer period of time, they will get to help choose the music they sing, such as the style, language and genre of the pieces. I do bi-annual recitals, so the student's typical work on 5 pieces twice a year depending on age/skill. My older and more skilled student's normally focus on competition pieces/ DYW pieces and college readiness skills.
First nurture, then teach! I make sure students are ready to learn, such as making sure all environmental needs are met. Realistic goals for my students are always made, but they are always pushed to succeed and have a growth mindset. All of my student's know the importance of practice and loving their musical art as they grow into young musicians. With a masters in special education I am able to tailor my skills to all student's and their diverse needs. I think everyone can learn the art of singing!
