I am a passionate and motivated instructor with a love for working with students of all ages and levels. I hold four degrees in violin performance and have been teaching for nineteen years. I am a violinist with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. I teach a mixture of Traditonal and Suzuki. I offer a strong studio environment and love to help students reach their goals. There is a high success rate of students in my studio getting into All State and musical festivals across the country. I enjoy working with students of all ages and levels and believe anyone can enjoy and benefit from learning the violin!
I hold four degrees in violin performance and have been teaching for nineteen years. I have worked with students ages 2-adult. I have trained students to be professional violinists and worked with countless beginners and amateurs. I enjoy working with all ages and levels. I teach a mixture of Traditional and Suzuki Methods. I introduce note reading at the beginning of lessons even with young children. I often work from several books at a time focusing on pieces, scales and etudes. I think it is important to have fun so I often encourage students to bring in pieces that they are excited about such a movie music, fiddle tunes or Christmas music.
For young beginners, I use a lot of the Suzuki Method of teaching. Music games, pitch recognition and rhythms are all introduced as games during the lessons. My adults study from a combination of pieces, exercises, scales and duets. I think understanding the pieces you are playing is important so students learn how to recognize key signatures and time signatures. I have many students participate in school orchestra and youth orchestra programs so students are coached on how to prepare, how to audition and learn how to cope with nerves.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! I tailor things to each student’s age, level and goals. I think anyone is able to learn an instrument and understand that we each learn and approach things differently. Some students are more oral or visual learners. I encourage students to practice at least four days a week and keep a practice log. Young stundents are rewarded by stickers for their weekly practice. I offer a strong studio environment where students feel supported, challenged and often get to know other students.
Autumn took a personal interest in teaching me; she gives me good feedback and pushes me to go above and beyond
