Takelessons student favorite award. Two original albums. Song featured on Whohaha.com
I am a musician and comedian, passionate about teaching the next batch of artists to be creative and daring in their art. I love helping students learn new skills as well as introducing them to new music in order to help them cultivate their personal style and artistic voice. When I was first learning guitar, I was frustrated about not knowing how to take the ideas in my head and convey them through my guitar. It is now my goal to help my students accomplish exactly that. I want them to play songs they love, try different styles to find out what is out there, and bring out their personal style.
I have been teaching Guitar for over ten years, starting as a teenager teaching neighborhood kids. I learned a lot from being in over my head, and it taught me the value of communicating clearly with my students. Since then, my love of teaching has grown. I’ve taught for after school programs and group classes with adults, but my favorite is one one one lessons where I can tailor lessons to what my students are passionate about. I am my student’s teammate and guide, helping them learn the skills they need to release their inner superstar!
We have fun right out of the gate. I bring songs to work on that I think students will like, and invite them to tell me what music they love so that they will want to practice. I have a few books to help us work through technique, but try to use that technique in music that the student will be excited to practice. As a passionate songwriter, I also encourage students to begin composing and songwriting right away if it interests them. Even a silly song a student writes about pizza is a teaching tool if a students likes it enough to want to practice often.
I am here to be an encouraging pal. I want to celebrate a student’s progress and victories too, so we will set goals both immediate and big picture, and work our way toward them. I am friendly and encouraging, and here to remind students that when they practice and focus, small steps turn into huge results! I gently push my students to be better, all the while singing their praises. We have to celebrate small victories too. Great musicians are built from a million tiny victories and a whole lot of practice.
