BM, Berklee College Of Music - Graduating 2016
I'm a student currently enrolled in Berklee College Of Music who has also been making a living as professionally touring musician in a few critically acclaimed projects, and have received tons of press for my work. There is nothing I love more than playing music and spreading the knowledge I have received from my experience on the road, and in the classroom to students everywhere. I've played bass, and guitar at such venues as Webster Hall in New York City, the Royale, Sinclair, and Middle East in Boston, and more! My work has been featured in such magazines as Rolling Stone, Stereogum, NME, Impose, and more.
My experience as a professional musician began as a teenager doing session work for bands all around Florida. In recent years I have also founded my own record label, toured with my own projects, and also play with internationally known touring acts. I've found that if you are stoked on what you do, and have a commitment to working hard on your craft, anything is truly possible. My students are encouraged to love what they love, and be stoked on expanding their musical skill set. I hope to push my students to start their own musical groups, meet other musicians, and to be creative with the musical knowledge they take in from every lesson.
For beginners just learning how to play their instrument, I start with exercises from an assortment of beginner books as well as teaching the fundamentals of scales, and basic chords which would give them the grasp on the music they want to learn. For students of all levels I basically care about finding what the student is interested in and building upon their tastes. I find that the most important thing is keeping the student engaged by being interested in not only the music itself but also the practice and routine.
When it comes time to begin working with a student, I always ask them what is their dream, their vision, and what is their reason for picking up a musical instrument. Their goal doesn't have to be rock stardom but they have to want to learn! I encourage setting up realistic goals, and giving them tasks and tools to pick up along the way. Based on my own experience as a touring musician with a career ahead of me, I feel like I have the tools to give my students the inside tips and knowledgable nuggets.
