Overview:
I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in May 2013 with a degree in jazz studies. While at UNC I studied jazz music as well as classical music. I'm very excited about teaching beginning and intermediate improvisers my own systematic approach to jazz improvisation. I'm also excited about teaching saxophone technique to beginning and intermediate saxophonists.   I also teach beginning piano.
EXPERIENCE
When I was a high school senior I taught several beginners. Having graduated from college, I'm looking forward to refining my approach to beginning and intermediate students. I consider myself to have been my own best teacher. I am constantly trying to adapt the exercises I developed that work best for me to my students.
METHODS USED
For beginning improvisers, I rely solely on my own materials and exercises, which emphasize the bebop scale and short ii-V licks and help develop understanding of key centers and 7-3 resolutions. For intermediate students as well, these concepts are essential to development as an improviser. For saxophonists, I begin with scalar studies and stress the importance of tone developing exercises such as overtones and long tones, but quickly introduce manageable repetoire.
LESSON STYLE
I think it is extremely important to give students freedom to explore their own interests and foster their own development. Education is the lighting of a fire and I consider it a privelege to fuel that fire. As a student myself, I thrived when given a balance of direction and freedom from my teachers. I try to do the same for my students while also keeping in mind that each student is different. Figuring out what students are truly interested in learning allows me to cater to each student's needs.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
