Overview:
I have been playing keyboards since I was 7 years old, starting with the accordion. As I grew older I began playing all other keyboard instruments. I have been playing in multiple venues and genres for over 30 years, and teaching for as long. I am very passionate about my craft, and truly enjoy passing my love for music and my knowledge of music to anyone wanting to learn.
EXPERIENCE
My experience with music is through my life experience in all the facets of music I've been involved with. I have been teaching for over 30 years and nothing is more rewarding for me than to have a student have the "light going on moment" that I've seen on more than one occasion. I believe if a student is bored then they have the wrong instructor, and I pride myself on not allowing that to happen. Yes you have to learn theory, but I also try to get my students to play songs they want to play.
METHODS USED
I create my lesson plans to each individual student, depending on their age and experience. I believe the Circle of Fifths is one of the most important pieces of music theory and is fundemental in the learning process. I also want to get them to understand how to read music, but also to learn how to listen to music so they can develop their ear. I also try to get my students to understand progressions and how they can write their own songs.
LESSON STYLE
My goal is to get people up and running as quickly as possible, playing music they want to play. Practice is needed and my hope always is to get students to want to practice, not because they have to practice. I always use the term "rehearse", as we musicians don't like to practice but we are alway's rehearsing. If I can inspire a student, then their goal of being successful is very attainable.
