Bachelor Degree: Middle Georgia State University
I've been playing piano for 10 years, and guitar for about 8. I love music and have dedicated my life to pursuing it. I finish my bachelors in music this December, where I've played in several combos and have had many great experiences. I'm in a band called West Ridge Circle, we released an EP, and are playing locally with plans to tour. I love the gift of giving music to other people, and Musika has provided a great way for musicians to link with one another and help each other grow. Can't wait to work with you!
I'm relatively new in the teaching game; however, I've had a number of students over the past few years. They seem to enjoy the lessons that I bring and have all progressed into wonderful players. I prefer to teach from the genre that the students like, but I definitely try and get them to branch out in order to learn new techniques. We will be sure to play in plenty of recitals, along with plenty of other ways to keep them motivated. Learning an instrument is really tough, but it can bring a lot of joy!
Depending on the style and level of the student, we will either find a book to start them on and guide them through the lesson, or we will hand pick music based on skill level and what the student is looking to accomplish. I'm always sure to include the music theory aspect, and why the songs function the way they do once the student reaches that point. This will be an excellent tool to have in their pocket as they continue on in their musical journey. Either way, no matter what age or skill level, we will have tons of fun!
I prefer to ensure that while my courses can be rigorous, we will let the student set the pace. I prefer to meet the student where they are, and then we can go from there as I tailor my lessons to their specific needs. As we go through we will set and accomplish goals, which each develop one or more techniques. This Is crucial to keeping students engaged and inspired in order to keep them invested in the instrument. As time goes on the student will realize how much they have progressed without even noticing!
