I am a dedicated saxophone teacher in the Indy area that is always looking for new students. I grew up in the greenfield area and went to New Palestine High School where I was inspired by my band director to pursue the world of music. My goal with any student is to see them succeed like I did in the world of saxophone. I am always about creating opportunities for students to grow as a player. This would include performing, practicing fundamentals, and getting introduced to all kinds of genres of music.
I graduated college in the Spring of 2020 and then proceeded to get a temporary teaching job as a orchestra director in Pike Township for the first half of the year. This was followed by an elementary teaching position in the same township. I then took a step back to focus on my playing. I am now teaching private lessons and part time saxophone a Pendleton Heights Middle School. Still in search of a full time teaching position but this is something I have always wanted to pursue. My overall goal is to teach full time and teach lessons on the side.
With younger beginning saxophone students I start them with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements book 1. This Provides a great foundation for students to start on and benefits in the long run. For mid range skill level students we start with (depending upon skill) the Rubank beginning or intermediate method book. This provides a lot of melodic material for them to grow as a musician. Lastly, for the advanced we would start with Ferling Etudes which really challenge the student at a higher level. This is definitely for the experienced players.
My goal for every lesson is for the students to feel accomplished by the end. This gives them the drive and inspiration that they need to become a great player. I also like to acknowledge students improvements on things they have practiced. In my mind a student will never improve with intense mean criticism. I always acknowledge the good first and things to work on second. This helps with there overall confidence in there playing. Lastly, I wanna see them develop a passion for saxophone and music with the tools I give them. That is the all time goal.
