Louisiana All State Band 2018/19
I am an incredibly passionate percussionist and composer in the Denver area. I have several years of experience in both concert and marching percussion, playing in the LMEA All State Band in high school and marching at the Louisiana Stars Drum and Bugle Corps in 2019 and 2022. I am currently marching with the Blue Knights Percussion Ensemble for the 2024 season playing snare drum. I can offer both in-person and virtual lessons for any skill level. I also welcome anyone wanting to learn basic drum patterns or beginner piano.
I began playing piano and attending lessons at age 6 and began playing drums at age 11. I have consistently played in my middle and high school bands and have attended numerous Honor Bands and camps related to concert percussion. After I graduated high school, I began attending LSU to earn an Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, and performed with LSU Wind Ensemble and Tiger Marching Band. After moving to Colorado, I began marching with independent ensembles like the Louisiana Stars and Blue Knights.
For Beginners, I usually begin with very rudimentary stick control patterns to get used to how the stick feels in the hands. As the lessons progress, then I will instruct patterns on drumset if wanted. The student can request whatever style of drumming they would like to delve into, anywhere from latin percussion to jazz drumset. I like to keep lessons fun and engaging for students of all skill levels and ages, so along with assignments I will come up with improvised grooves and patterns on the spot
It is important to install a sense of confidence and feeling of progression when teaching, so I make sure to acknowledge every student's progress along with the desired improvements. Everyone can improve at every skill level, so I believe it is important to let the student know the amount of progress they've achieved from hard work. Belittling is not something I believe is an effective method of having someone fall in love with anything, especially not music. Positive and constructive comments are the only ones I give.
