One of the most exciting things about teaching all students, is watching the moment of clarity upon his or her face when I know they finally “get it. I am a passionate educator and musician with the unique ability to teach, motivate, and direct students while maintaining high levels of engagement and achievement. I am an articulate communicator who can effectively interact with diverse populations of students of all ages, at a variety of musical levels. I am a self- motivated worker and leader with strong planning, organizational skills, committed to helping people reach their personal music goals and have lots of fun doing it. It was my mother who initially introduced me to music in an attempt to keep me away from the grime of the ghetto. At a young age, I was unaware of the impact music would have on my life. The skills that I developed while struggling to become artistically proficient increased my appetite for academic learning and changed the way I looked at the world. Later in my adult life, I saw the way that music affected me personally in every area of my life, and realized the potential in linking music with customized kinesthetic learning activities and that became the idea behind my extraordinary music lessons and teaching methods.
My teaching experience comes from the church as early as 13 year old I formed a youth choir called The Worshippers. We performed at churches throughout Chicago area. We also appeared on radio and cable shows. I developed music collaboration programs; recorded and transcribed music for performances for many up and coming artist. I performed in conjunction with local businesses; organized shows for local and out-of-state musicians, including Mekiel Reuben and Ron Haynes who toured with Lenny Kravitz. I continue to teach private piano, voice and percussion lessons all year round. I've conducted collaboration projects with Unincorporated (Label) Recorded song “When Time Began” for Family Conspiracy album; toured the West Coast; played keyboards and percussion at various locales with members of Unincorporated, Freestyle, Serendipity, Lovers in Arms, KRS One, Hollywood Blues Band MIW (Music Industry Workshop at Studio Chicago) Interviewed potential clients for music/educational program within the studio; visited showcases and conferences to promote the program Performed with several bands as keyboardist/vocalist at a variety of Chicago, Atlanta, Colorado, & Los Angeles venues (just to name a few). I like to keep the learning simple and basic for the beginning students(children & adult), so I typically start with excerpts from the Robert Pace series or John Thompson’s piano books from The Willis Music Company. That way I can assess the student to see if they can understand music auditorily, visually and kinesthetically. For my mid to advance students, I access them through customized questions & a series of strategic musical exercises to find out what the students are interested in, and assist them in their goals on the level that they can understand. All of my instructions are based on their assessment results and designed to always be engaging and fun.
One of the most exciting things about teaching all students, is watching the moment of clarity upon his or her face when I know they finally “get it.” I am passionate about teaching music & performance, because I know that I can give that life changing experience to your child or to you as an adult. My students not only learn the skills and techniques needed to perform well and become more creative musicians/performers, they enjoy it too! I love working with all people and teaching them how to love learning, listening & performing music on all levels even after the lessons are done.
