I’m a friendly, hardworking musician who loves to help students learn to create music to the best of their ability. I’ve worked professionally as a pianist and accompanist since 1992, and have also had the opportunity to work as an actress on shows for ABC, Showtime, TBN, Inspiration Network, and major film studios. These experiences have enhanced my ability to teach students how to perform at all levels, even when the stakes are high. I also love to teach beginning students, because my own love of music also began at a young age, and I understand the excitement of beginning to learn to play an instrument!
My experience teaching and performing music began at a young age. I was playing for church before I was 10, although wasn’t taught to play by ear... I learned this on my own after college and so I try to incorporate this as much as possible when I teach my own students also. I’ve had the opportunity to learn Classical piano from some excellent teachers who themselves performed with top symphonies. I’ve taught classroom music and drama as well, producing Broadway-style musicals for student programs. Currently I work as a pianist and accompanist in the Charlotte area.
I use a variety of methods, custom-fit for each student individually. I teach Classical and church piano, along with sightreading, ear training, performance techniques, music theory, and other techniques specially designed to give my students the most well-rounded learning experience possible. I tend to prefer Piano Adventures for younger students and teens, and incorporate use of the corresponding app whenever possible. I also focus on helping students learn to play by ear, since I believe this is the quickest way to feel a mastery over the instrument!
I absolutely love seeing my students really learn their new techniques and music! I am a very patient person and definitely allow each student to learn at his / her own pace, encouraging them to know each technique in several different ways, to truly have a good understanding of not only what they are playing, but how and why. I am a stickler for lots and lots of practice (what else? ;-) ), but honestly you or your student will only learn piano by practicing consistently. I also try to include music that each student really enjoys, whatever moves and inspires them!
Great teacher.
Our 8-year-old grand-daughter greatly enjoys her lessons with Beth, the only music teacher she has ever had. Beth makes everything about music fun. She is an excellent pianist herself, as well as a fine music teacher. She is great with music theory, as well as with piano technique. I highly recommend her as a piano teacher for anyone, from beginning students to advanced pianists.
Beth is an excellent Piano Teacher! My 15-year-old daughter, Julie, loves to play by ear. Getting her to learn to read music was a big challenge in the past. When I heard that Beth was offering piano classes, I knew she would be the perfect match for my girl. I’ve known Beth for over 10 years and knew her to be a very talented and an educated pianist. She immediately knew how to challenge and fine tune Julie’s abilities by ear, as well as, teach her how to read music and learn music theory. We have seen an amazing improvement and growth in Julie’s playing abilities since she’s been with Beth for a little over 2 years now. I highly recommend Beth as a piano teacher. She is patient, fun, and encouraging. Plus…we love her laugh!!
My daughter has been taking lessons with Beth for several years, and we just love her. She’s like a member of the family! My daughter is not only learning to read the music, but she is very good at listening to songs and being able to play them by ear. Beth is an excellent teacher and I would highly recommend her.
