Bachelor Degree: Saginaw Valley State University
I am passionate about music and I want to motivate others in their love of music too! I recently graduated from Saginaw Valley State University with a degree in vocal performance. I have experience singing many types of music such as opera, classical, and musical theater. I also have been playing piano and trumpet for more than 5 years. Some of my notable achievements are playing second chair trumpet in the All Star Band and earning a Superior vocal rating at state solo and ensemble. I look forward to working with you!
My teaching experience started in high school when I assisted my teacher with high school band and tutored younger students on trumpet. My first official teaching job was in college at El Ballet Folklorico teaching voice and piano. I also taught voice and piano at Grand Blanc music. I have taken several classes in music methods during college. I also have been substitute teaching for three years. I encourage my students to be the best they can be. I also find it important that they are enjoying their time in lessons and learning something new every time.
I find it important to have every student work on age appropriate music that will best help them to grow as a musician. I like to have my voice students both learn assigned music and music that they tell me they would like to learn. For beginning instrumentalists, I prefer they work through method books rather than start solo repertoire right away. I like to use the Essential Elements books for trumpet and I prefer to use the Alfred's piano books. I usually begin every lesson with warm-up exercises and then we move on to more complicated music. I expect students to practice frequently and take the necessary time to work on their music every week. Practice time will vary based on the age of the student.
I love to see every student progress as a musician and develop a deeper passion for their musical instrument! I believe it is important to set realistic goals for every student and to do our best to meet those goals. I believe it is important for me to encourage my students with positive words and by acknowledging their accomplishments. I like to work with my students to figure out what their goals are and to help them achieve those goals. I also believe that it is important that I never stop pushing my students to do their very best.
