Hello! I've been teaching music as long as I've been performing, going back many years. I'm an energetic, supportive teacher and coach, who is focused on each student's needs. Since I've performed worldwide in many different genres, I'm very comfortable working in styles ranging from pop to musical theatre, jazz and blues to classical music. I've taught voice at Berklee College of Music, and several other schools, where I've enjoyed teaching people of all ages, backgrounds and ethnicities.
I first started teaching in the 1990s, in Boston, MA., both privately, and at Berklee College of Music. Since moving to Sarasota, I've taught voice/chorus at Out Of Door Academy and IMG Academy. I've thoroughly enjoyed working with students who are motivated to learn and grow, sing for their personal pleasure, and/or with professional goals in mind. I like to instill joy as well as self discipline. Being from Montreal, I speak English and French fluently, as well as other languages, and love teaching people of every age and cultual background.
For piano students, I use the Faber method, which I believe is very practical and easy to use. The repertoire includes light classical, contemporary and lyrical songs. I teach proper hand position and posture, work on scales, basic music terminology and playing technique. All voice students work on breathing, standard vocal exercises, age appropriate repertoire and interpretation. I have a fun, upbeat personal style, while also being very focused.
I thoroughly enjoy teaching anyone who shows interest in music! Because learning requires concentration, The atmosphere in my studio is light, open and colorful. We keep it casual, fun and upbeat. Each student plays a baby grand piano, which offers a full sound. I have a sound system with microphone, used for vocal audition technique.
