I love sharing music with people who might not have access to it otherwise. Exploring what classical music is and how we can come together as a community to make it. I graduated with my Bachelors from IU and Masters from DePaul and am in the process of earnign my Doctorate. I play and teach throughout the chicago area as a freelance cellist and as part of several small ensembles.
I have been teaching since 2004 and have worked will all age groups and skill levels.
I tend to customize a course of method books, etudes, and solo rep for each individial student. I focus on material that will be benificial in ading th estudent in reaching their goals. As a result the student has a mixed bag of things that he or she is working on at any time, resulting in a fun experience that keeps both of us from becoming bogged down with endless etudes or techinical work.
I was teaching at a summer music festival and had a student transform his entire attitude towards music by the end of two weeks. When he came to me he slouched and didn't take much seriously, but through working together he became aware of the amazing powers of music. His grandmother came to me after the camp and said she had never seen him so excited to pick up his cello, he began practicing every day and enjoying the instrument. It is that response that drives me as a teacher, when trying to tackle technical problem I try to think of as many ways as possible for the student achieve th edesired result. Then when the correct image is found, the students eyes light up and they flourish with the new found technique. I try to provide an encouraging challenging atmosphere that allows each student to flourish and grow as a musician.
Bill is an amazing teacher. The patience, kindness, and understanding that he shows to a 4 year old is really remarkable! And he keeps his sense of humor going at the same time! My granddaughter really wants to play well for him. Thank you so much for your referral.
