Overview:
I am a caring and committed instrumental instructor who really enjoys working with students of all ages. I have taught students from the third grade to retirees. Experience In elementary school through college instruction has given me the positive reactions of students of all ages while teaching in the varied levels. I have broad experiences of performing in many different styles including Classical, show music, and Jazz. I played on the the Cruise Ships also. My Masters of Music Education has been very helpful, with my experience, of helping get great results.
EXPERIENCE
Starting after college, I taught Middle school. I followed that up with various public and charter school directorships from beginners to College positions I have taught numerous instruments at my and other studios I believe in playing duets and sight reading with my students and having performances to show developmental gains while having fun as goals are met and wonderful musical pieces are explored Students are encouraged to listen to many live and recorded performances We strive to develop solid practice routines and feel proud of our musical development
METHODS USED
There are many terrific methods and books available for musical development. An easy and enjoyable starter is Essential Elements. The Eubanks series is good, especially the advanced flute book one. There are some great solo books especially the Kris books 1-3 that come with nice piano accompaniments. Students really benefit from scale technique development coupled with arpeggio and varied articulation studies like Klose for Clarinet and Melodiusvand Progressive Studies for Saxophone. For the more advanced the great Ferling studies is the best for Saxophone.
LESSON STYLE
We like lessons to be fun and challenging. Sight reading abilities really help musicality and ability for spontaneity. Part of each lesson is spent on good posture, breathing and excellent practice methods. We slow down the difficult passages and get them played correctly. Attention to tone and a great armbiture are always kept in mind, as well as hand position and minimal movement as the songs and exercises are played. Students are encouraged to listen to wonderful players with attention to the beautiful sound possibilities as well as the fluid technique.
