I am an active performer and percussion instructor who enjoys introducing new students to the world of music as well as honing the skills of more advanced players. I have earned both Bachelors and Masters degrees in music performance from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and I have had the opportunity to perform with various groups across the United States and Europe. My private teaching studio is located in my home in Maryland, where I have all the instruments we will need to get you where you want to be musically!
In addition to performing, my love for music extends into the classroom and private studio as well. I began teaching individual and group lessons 8 years ago, and I love finding new and exciting ways to expose my students to the latest methods and techniques to better their playing and musicality. I find that no matter what genre of music my students are interested in learning, consistent exposure to all styles is an invaluable tool in advancing ones abilities. I am always interested in taking on new students no matter their goals or experience level.
My teaching methods are entirely based on the current abilities and individual learning style of each individual student. I do reference a few standard and time-tested method books for various skill levels, however, every lesson will be customized to the goals and needs of the student. I strive to keep up with current MMEA audition repertoire for those students interested in pursuing those opportunities on the local and state level. You can count on our lessons being relaxed, and I will encourage you to challenge yourself in order to reach your goals.
For me, teaching is much more than showing each student everything I know as a musician. My ultimate responsibility as an instructor is to understand the students' goals and recognize how they learn best. While recognizing their musical and technical accomplishments, I encourage the students to maintain patience and discipline as they delve farther into the study of their instrument. The greatest reward for me as a teacher is to inspire my students to want to work hard to develop their own sound, style, and passion for music!
Knowledgeable, friendly, flexible, and patient....An excellent teacher for people in my situation (adult beginner) and other situations as well.
Brandon is awesome!!! He has a lot of experience and is very patient with my beginner musician. I've never seen my son so excited about learning something new.
