I have been playing the drum kit for 20 years, and have taught drum kit and snare drum for 10. Throughout high school I played in every ensemble that had a percussion section or drum kit. After graduation I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston. I have been performing live since I was in middle school in many ensemble settings ranging from jam band to metal. My principle style is jazz (bop/post-bop). I have taught students of all ages and abilities.
EXPERIENCE
Over the years I have larned invaluable lessons about drum kit instruction. Teaching many different students with many different personalities, lesson needs, practice habits, and so on has led me to develop a flexability in my teaching that allows the individual student to get the most from each lesson. I encourage my students to push their musical boundaries and reach beyond what they belive they are capable of. I have found that at the end of the sometimes frustrating road to achievement lies the feeling of success that propels learning. I have seen the smiles on kids of all ages when a breakthrough is made.
METHODS USED
I begin all students on snare drum. This allows for the proper development of hand technique that is the base of percussion. I teach the original 26 rudiments along with the Breeze Easy method books for beginners, or students that do not read music. With the drum kit I encourage students to become familiar with as many styles of music they can. I use the blending of styles to help mold the student from a drummer to a musician, and help create an individual sound; I believe that the drummer is not just the timekeeper, but just as much a musician as the rest of the ensemble.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is adaptive to each individual student's strenghts and weaknesses. I create lesson plans based off of skill level and learning type. Everyone learns at their own pace, and I make sure to cater to those individual needs. I am an educator who strongly believes in the power of music education, and how it relates to other aspects of life. I believe a fun environment is the first step in education, and through the proper balance of hard work and fun the students goals will be met.

Brandon is excellent. My child enjoys the lessons and is learning rather quickly how to drum.

Brandon is patient, positive, and intuitive. He is a great match for our son as illustrated by giving him the right level of challenge and being supportive when he does well and when he struggles.
