BFA, University of the Arts, Musical Theatre
2013- Best Vocalist (Music in the Park National Competition) 2012- Colorado All-State Vocal Jazz Ensemble
I'm a passionate and driven Off-Broadway actor who loves working with new students and teaching them the foundation of music/theatre. I graduated early from The University of the Arts in Dember 2016 with a BFA in Musical Theatre. I've performed all over the U.S. and have worked with amazing individuals in the industry. I am mostly known for my classically rooted bari-tenor timbre and jazz stylization that influence my characters to seem vulnerable, yet grounded.
Currently, I am in the studio working on solo projects within the jazz/musical theatre realm.
I began teaching in high school due to me being the student director of the choir and my choir director knowing my background vocally, encouraged me to help some of the incoming students and choir hopefuls. By the end of my junior year of high school, I was giving private lessons 5 times a week and directed some pieces during competitions. While attending college, I was gathered to coach some of the other musical theatre students in music theory and in musical theatre performance. Which led me to participate in the School of Music's Vocal Jazz Ensemble and tour around the state of PA/NY.
Typically I start off gaining some insight into my students. Who do they look up to, the type of music they're into, what genres they want to improve in, etc... After gathering that information I ask them to sing a song that they enjoy or that means something to them. Based off of that I've gathered a substantial amount of information about their voice and their preferences to develop a curriculum/course outline for them. However, I always go back to training my students classically or with a richer sound because that is the key to all music.
My approach to teaching is solely based on vocal placement and having a great time. I encourage my students to mimic their favorite artists and or artist that they are not familiar with. This enables the students to loosen the tension in the voice and to get out of their comfort zones. By doing this they embody a level of confidence outside of themselves, which is such a rewarding feeling as a teacher. Confidence is the main factor when it comes to succeeding as a singer. I constantly provide feedback to my students, which fuels them as a student because it shows I care and that they're improving.
