What gets me up in the morning and keeps me up at night? Music. Private instructors, fellow jammies (music collaborators) and the Berklee College of Music in Boston, all made me who I am as a teacher. I love the prestige of a successful lesson, to see the revelation of "cool" in the student and myself. It seems music was made for me, but also for anyone else who wants to learn. That's where I come in. Adaptability is key to connecting with another musician and no one is a bigger music fan in the Santa Clarita than me.
It’s always been my dream to learn music, then perform and teach. And like a good student under the tutelage master musicians of the past, I’m passing on the art to others. All while making my own lesson plans that cater to the student. It’s an endless river of knowledge and fun. Music was innate in me from my family of performers and curators. Private instruction taught me the language; jamming taught me how to implement what I had learned. Music schools showed me the meaning of sacrifice and creativity. And from it all, I earned a B.A. in Songwriting and M.F.A. in Instrumental Studies
Applied behavior analysis is key to teaching complex tasks and acquiring fine motor skills to perform the student’s intentions. Reward systems are implemented with social reinforcement and earned graduation plans (free strings, picks, CD’s, books, etc.). I cater to the wishes and dreams of the student, while directing them to meet the requirements to obtain those wishes and dreams. Nothing is forced, compliance is always granted and earned, determined work ethic is displayed throughout. Fun and effective learning is mandatory.
With trained ABA, we can achieve the ever-sought status of “cool”. It is a process of reciprocal musical involvement. I learn from the student, the student then teaches me. Each student is attended to equally with a specific lesson plan (materials provided by teacher). Inspiration and fun is crucial and without it would be a wasted lesson. I’m a nice person with empathy and a determination to keep the student focused and engaged with purpose. Every lesson I teach is applicable to other fields of work and education.
