Overview:
I am a personable teacher who enjoys developing positive relationships with my students. I employ humor and positive reinforcement to motivate students. I enjoy working with students at all stages of musical development. I've been able to create performance situations for myself and my students, much as my teachers did for me. I strive for a lesson environment which is enjoyable for the student, thus helping to motivate practice and a desire to improve. Through my own playing, as well as sharing samples of great artists, I expose students to what true excellence in music can be.
EXPERIENCE
I have years of experience teaching elementary, high school, and college musicians. Students under my tutelage have experience significant musical improvement, as well as the satisfaction which comes from working towards long-term goals and achieving them. I greatly enjoy enabling students to develop their physical mastery of their instruments. I enjoy the challenge of working with each student's unique musical and physical strengths and weaknesses in instrumental performance, and working to develop the most complete musician possible.
METHODS USED
For beginning brass students, I have used Essential Elements 2000, Standard of Excellence, and the Student Instrumental Course. As students become more capable, we move into method books and repertoire written specifically for their instrument. Lessons include a combination of mastering the physical challenges of the instrument and developing musicality. Music to be studied is chosen based on the needs of the student. As students become more advanced, I enjoy involving them in the selection of repertoire to be studied.
LESSON STYLE
My ultimate goal in teaching music students is to develop players who are intrinsically motivated. This is a long-term process which I enjoy guiding. I'm very interested in the psychology of motivation for each individual student, realizing that what "works" with one student may not be effective with another. I enjoy developing a relationship with individual students which is based on more than our involvement in music. I'm a firm believer that teaching individual lessons is about more than just music; it's a special one-on-one, teacher-student relationship which can have a positive, life-long impact.

I took trombone lessons with Brent for over 5 years. He always pushed me to improve while giving the tools and encouragement I needed to succeed. I always enjoyed going to my lessons and really value the skills he was able to teach me.

Brent always pushed me as a student. He taught me trombone, and although trombone isn't his primary instrument of study, he is very knowledgeable and taught me from beginner to a high level. He was relaxed yet still pushed me to improve, and we have a good relationship because of that. Fun, passionate teacher.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
