I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2008, I graduated from DePauw University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. In 2014, I graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Music degree in Church Music. I love to teach and see my students come to love music just as I do.
I have taught piano since 2009 and have experience teaching various age groups and skill levels.
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with a method book in order to introduce finger numbers and good technique. We build more and more skills as time progresses. Depending on the student, we may depart from the method book and learn more substantial songs; I'm very good with adapting to the skill levels and strengths of each student. With older students, since they generally have a better feel for what songs/composers they like, I will give them more freedom to choose their own songs and work with them from there. Overall, I am very flexible and can cater to each student with ease.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. Acknowledging accomplishments, as well as constructively giving concrete and ways to improve, helps fuel a student's desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I can successfully tailor my instruction to their strengths and needs.
Brett is an accomplished musician, who shared his knowledge at a level that my five year old understands. He is polite and relaxed in his mannerisms but take a serious approach to focusing on the lesson. He is very patient and engaging with the attention span you'd expect from a kindergartener. His motto ever is "sometime you learn faster by going slow"
