I'm passionate about music and continuing to learn ones craft. I love to play and to teach music. I believe patience is very important when teaching students. There is also a better experience for all when sessions have a sense of fun. I've been learning, practicing, and playing guitar for twenty one years now. I've learned many things in that time. I've been in many projects and bands through the years and have met many musicians along the way. I currently am the lead guitarist for a band called The Guild. this group has given me the support I need to become a better musician. That I believe is a beautiful goal to strive for.
I've been teaching guitar for around two years now. The main thing when teaching a student is to have patience. organization is another important aspect of lessons. I stress the importance of practicing as well as having fun with what is going on. If it's not fun, it's not worth doing. I love teaching guitar to students and I love to see the progression of a student's learning experience. That in itself is very rewarding to me. I let students learn only at their own pace and I'm always open to all inquiries students may have. there are no stupid questions here. the better teacher I am, the better prepared students will become.
With beginners and especially children, I only assume that one's knowledge of the guitar is at best at a basic level. I'll begin by teaching how to hold the instrument as well as posture. Also I'll teach basic strumming patterns for the student to get familiar with the guitar. With students at an intermediate level, I'll ask how much they may already know, or what they would like to learn. I would then fashion my lesson plan around that. Generally, for myself as well as the student, I will list topics to study and practice, from beginner, intermediate, and expert.
My teaching style consists of patience and positive energy, as well as having the lessons being interesting and fun. I love when students take initiative. practice is important in learning. I hold a high value on accuracy, then building speed to the desired ability. Everyone learns differently and I adapt my lessons based on the student. Everyone learns at their own pace, and will be a better student to be free of any time constraints on what is learned. I understand exactly what it's like to be a student, since I was one myself at one time.
