I am graduate of the Berklee College of Music with a degree in Music Business/Management. I have over 31 years of private teaching experience, and I teach all brass instruments, with trumpet being my specialty. My lessons are tailored to each individual, session to session, and employ proven methods that will advance a student’s ability and skill level. I have performed with many national recording and touring artists including Deep Purple, Bobby Vinton, Connie Francis, “1964 The Tribute”, Sting, James Taylor, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Oleta Adams, and Natalie Cole. I toured the United States and Canada with the broadway show “Annie”, serving as a member of the pit orchestra, and I have played the National Anthem for both the Philadelphia Phillies and the Baltimore Orioles in solo appearances. In addition, I can be heard on Mercury Records with a Platinum® selling recording artist.
My teaching experience began in college. I quickly realized that I most enjoyed helping people on an individual basis. In addition to performing in myriad musical idioms, I have made a career of private teaching, having conducted over 26,000 lessons since 2001. My performance experience weaves its way into many lessons, as I am able to share “real-life” experiences about the practicality of the material that we study. Many of my students have gone on to become performers, band directors, and scholarship winners.
Lessons are tailored to each individual. My teaching methods include a warm-up routine, scales, and etudes or songs from various method books, depending on the skill level of the student. Standard repertoire in classical and jazz studies is also covered. Sight-reading, improvisation, and ear-training are also a part of most lessons. Material that is time-sensitive for the student, such as school music (band/orchestra) as well as seating test/audition music is given top priority. A practice log/journal is encouraged.
My teaching style is of an encouraging nature. Pursuing musical excellence is demanding and requires discipline and dedication. In my experience, those demands are best met with encouragement, not negativity. For as long as we are willing to learn, we are all students. I am just further along in the journey as a student, so I can convey my knowledge and help make my student's journey a little easier. I am easy-going, but not lax. As I mentioned, lessons are individually tailored, session to session.
