BM, Berklee College of Music, Guitar Performance
I have spent the majority of my life as learning the guitar and studying music, and I am dedicated and passionate about sharing my knowledge and love of the instrument with the students I teach. I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelors Degree in Guitar Performance and recently just moved to Nashville where I am currently playing professionally and teaching students. I find teaching to be an incredibly rewarding experience on my musical journey, and look forward to helping my students reach their goals.
I originally started teaching private lessons late in high school and have been teaching students ever since. I greatly enjoy the lessons I teach and it is very important to my that my student teaching enjoys them too. I have taught students with experience levels ranging from beginner to advanced, and ages ranging from kids to adults. I have had many incredible guitar teachers over the years who have inspired in many ways, and my goal is to provide the same inspiration and guidance that I have been given in the past.
For new students, I like to get to know them, what kind of music they like, where they're currently at, and where they want to be. From here, I can point them in the right direction on how to get where they want to be. Lessons usually consist of learning repertoire the students want to learn, showing techniques and providing exercises related to the kind of music they like and their favorite players, show them whats going on within the pieces they're learning on a theoretical level, giving tips on composition, ear training, etc. Each lesson is entirely based on the students current goals so the content of the lesson is often very different from student to student.
I like to take a very personalized approach to teaching and my methods can vary greatly depending on my students goals and interests. I think the most important aspect of learning the guitar is enjoying the process of practicing the instrument. Because of this, I base my lessons on what each individual student desires to learn, teach them concepts in the context of the music that they love, and give them the technical and theoretical concepts behind the music they're passionate about. I think this accelerates the learning process, makes the lessons more enjoyable, and motivates the students to practice more often.
