I have a bachelor degree in music from University of Massachusetts - Lowell. As well as being a band leader, I am a songwriter and audio engineer. I am constantly evolving as a guitarist to find new ways of expressing myself through music. My purpose is to help you realize the importance of learning music and inspiring new students with my unique style of teaching. I am patient, soft spoken and have great communication skills along with a positive attitude. Lessons with me are not strict but fun.
The most important aspects of playing guitar for me have always been performing and songwriting. I have been playing guitar for over twenty years. I've been recording music on my own for over 15 years; writing songs, multitracking and playing all the instruments myself. My musical experience started with a year of piano lessons at the age of 8. Before long, I realized my life would be much more interesting with an electric guitar. At the age of 9, I met my first guitar teacher who taught me the importance of training your ears and how to perform the songs I learned live on stage. Later in my teens, my second guitar teacher taught me how to read music, play with a metronome and prepared me for my college audition on guitar. I attended University of Massachusetts - Lowell and throughout college I played in jazz ensembles, learned to sight read and improvise solos. All the experiences I've gathered from my past guitar mentors have been invaluable towards understanding my potential as a musician.
For beginning students, I start by teaching the fundamentals of left and right hand technique, focusing on the first position. Afterwards, we will work towards a better understanding of notes, chords and how to maneuver the guitar with both hands fluidly. Then we can explore more advanced and rewarding techniques. Once the student has a grasp of the fundamentals, we will begin learning songs and how to perform for your friends and family. For students with a little more experience, I go off of what the student wants to learn and guide my instruction accordingly. I always try to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter your ability level. I look forward to helping you learn guitar and as your teacher I will encourage you to achieve your goals as a musician.
Whether you have some experience with guitar or you are pondering whether or not you have any musical abilities at all, I have something to offer you. In my lessons I have a gentle approach to teaching music theory and ear training, song composition alongside the tools and techniques of how to play guitar fluently. Together, we will set attainable goals and I will inspire you to explore the endless possibilities of your instrument. Most of all, I'II ensure you will not only look forward to our next lesson together every week but towards picking up your guitar and unlocking all of its mysteries everyday.
