2013- Jazz Band President Laredo Community College

Overview:

Hello and good afternoon!  My name is Brian and i love working with music.  As a student of music myself, i have a passion for music and enjoy teaching music and being around musicians like myself.  I will be graduating from St. Mary's University this December with  Major in English and a minor in music.  I performed with the Jazz Band Ensemble at Laredo Community College from 2012 to 2014, leading as Jazz band President in 2014.

EXPERIENCE

Ever since I entered the world of music during my middle school days, I have been helping other musicians grow in skill and enjoyed helping others understand music theory.  As first chair oboe player, I was required to make sure that  the rest of the woodwind players knew their music, and made arrangements to coach individual students that were lagging behind.  I had the chance to learn how to play Clarinet, Oboe, and Alto and Bari Sax in high school.  I was able to learn a acceptable level of skill in each of those instruments, and because of that I feel entirely at ease coaching musicians that play these three instruments.

METHODS USED

In my opinion, the Standard of Excellence book series works great for students that don't have a solid foundation of music fundamentals and theories.  For more advanced students, the second edition of Standard of Excellence is also exceptionaly good at polishing an already musically developed player.

LESSON STYLE

Slow but steady works best.  Learning the material at slow but progresive pace leads the student to learn the material more easily.  For students that are already experienced, I usually let the student dictate the speed at which we breeze through the material, as to not frustrate or bore a student that is experienced.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
