I am a dedicated clarinetists and private instructor, and I love being able to teach people of all ages and skill levels. I am a Sophomore Music Industry major at Middle Tennessee State University. One of my biggest enjoyments of the clarinet is solo repertoire, and I've participated extensively in competitions all over. I've also enjoyed playing in a variety of youth and collegiate orchestras, and find that orchestra is one more thing I am passionate about. I am looking to one day be a professional orchestral clarinetist.
I have been teaching younger students for 4 years now, and I have taught mainly kids from ages 9-15. I am interested in any age of student who wants to learn! I love to get to know my students personally and tailor my lessons to them. I love planning out a practice routine with each student and making it personal so they never feel burnt out or overwhelmed when they're trying to enjoy their hobby. I also enjoy a challenge when a student wants to take their music to the next level, and it becomes a wonderful journey!
For beginners, I like to establish a steady embrochure and hold on the clarinet. It is important to establish these crucial elements. I also strongly believe in scales right off the bat and try to integrate these in an interesting way, along with some beginning solo repertoire. Past that, I love getting my intermediate students started on weekly or bi-weekly etudes. For the more serious student, I base it off of what they are currently trying to achieve, such as upcoming auditions, orchestral repertoire, competitions, summer festival prep, etc. With every student I teach, I'm interested in making our work fun and enjoyable while meeting a bigger musical goal.
Each student has their own style of learning and I learn about it each time. For every student, I take notes on what we've done and what I want them to work on for the next time, and I send them home with this information. I am always eager to see my students progress and have things click, but some students are incredibly busy with other extra activities and I take that into serious consideration. I always ask my students if what I have asked of them is reasonable, so I make sure they are happy and healthy. I believe in the importance of realistic expectations!
